Aren’t candid creeper shots with bad resolution enjoyable? They have a certain feeling of authenticity that you can’t get from a digital camera or even a Polaroid.
Exposed: Voyeurism, Surveillance, and the Camera Since 1870 was at the Walker last month. It’s one of the best photography exhibitions I’ve ever seen, and it’s all about candid photos, etc. I wish I’d gotten a chance to revisit it before I left for college- so much to think about. This photo of John and I was taken on the bus this evening. You can see Shay, the Photographer, reflected in the background even through the picture’s shitty quality. The look on our faces is the ohshithowmuchofthatisoncamera? expression that has only so recently become a part of our culture.
I love new media.
